Gender imbalance at the top of UK charities is holding sector back

Interesting new report on the charity sector:

  • PBE study finds women in sector contributed £19bn to economy in 2019
  • Women make up 68% of employees and 64% of hours worked
  • Yet only around 1 in 3 of biggest UK charities has a female CEO
  • Men outnumber women on charity boards by 2:1 ratio
  • Concerns also raised about male-dominated funders – just 7 women in latest Giving List, compared to 69 men
  • Report calls for sector leaders, charity boards and funders to drive change
