Team GB has sent a squad of 50 athletes to the Winter Olympics in China, which began this week. To make sports more accessible and inclusive Sport England funds national governing bodies including Snowsport England and British Ice Skating to help athletes qualify for the Games and invests in community facilities. The organisation’s Uniting the Movement is also focused on tackling inequalities and includes a Talent Plan for England -  a principle of which is to create national teams that reflect diversity.

Of the 50 athletes and reserves Team GB have in Beijing, 48% have received funding from the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme or SportsAid. The latter not only finances athletes from deprived backgrounds but helps with nutrition, time management, and mentoring.
